Western Medical Acupunctureis commonly used by healthcare professionals as an alternative means of controlling pain.
Extremely fine 'needles' are inserted into very precise points on the body, relevant to the area of pain.
TCM Acupuncture - Traditional Chinese Medical Acupuncture is both a diagnostic and healing tool and is applicable to most ailments and symptoms resulting in quite profound changes.

"... The practice of using essential oils to promote well-being."
A professional Aromatherapist is trained in using and blending essential oils and thus creating specific remedies for various conditions, taking into account mental, emotional, physical and energetic states.
Aromatherapy massage is frequently a soft massage, designed to enhance the flow of Qi (life-force energy) in the body’s 10 meridians. It is claimed to benefit people rather than treat illnesses.
It’s most effective use lies in relieving stress and thus it may help stress-related conditions such as anxiety, insomnia, headaches, depression and digestive disorders. Muscle pain, menstrual problems, menopausal symptoms and colds may also be helped.
"... Aimed at a particular negative state of mind to help us manage our emotions better and so to become the person we were meant to be " and while there is no Bach Remedy for indiviual pains such as migraine or sciatca these homeopathic remeides can treat the effect pain has on our personality, moods, temperament. spirit etc and in this way we are able better to cope with the situation and very often the root cause is thus accessed and symptoms can be 'miraculously' eased.
There are 38 Remedies made from the potentised energy of plants, each one identifying with a particular personality trait, mood or state of mind. Frequently, up to seven at a time can be combined to treat the particular emotions you are feeling. Once the correct remedies have restored balance to the personality the body is better able to heal itself.
Perhaps the most famous remedy; Rescue Remedy, is actually a combination of five flowers ready-mixed for use in emergencies. During a session the Bach Flower practitioner will sit with you and talk through your current situation as well as taking an in-depth look at your personality type. It can be a very enlightening process that can initiate many changes and the bottle of remedies you take away with you can help those changes become a reality. It is perfectly safe to use for any age or condition.

It has long been established that moving in certain ways is necessary for brain development, for example a baby crawling develops connections between right and left hemispheres of the brain. These movements have been adapted into a highly efficient system to enhance the learning process and optimise the capabilities of each individual.
When we are under stress, the brain reacts by blocking the simultaneous transmission of information to both hemispheres - one hemisphere is switched off and problems can arise. This can cause co-ordination problems and interfere with our ability to think clearly, to see sometimes obvious solutions to problems, to comprehend, to organise or to communicate effectively.
Brain Gym facilitates access to both hemispheres simultaneously - the person is switched on and integrated. By using movement to access the brain we can integrate all relevant areas towards a common goal, be that learning a new skill or motivating ourselves to achieve the things we want to in life.
The Brain Gym can improve ability in any area because it teaches the brain to fully activate all of its functions. It has been used in sports to improve balance co-ordination, team work and performance. It has also been used in business in areas such as the writing of appraisals, CV’s, application forms, team building skills, stress, focusing, organisation.
"... involves an in-depth assessment of the feet;"

Crystal Therapies
"...nature's healing energies brought to you through the gentle power of crystals. These therapies are deeply nourishing and ejyable experiences that nourish the mind, body & spirit. Each crystal has it's own vibration which focuses on distinct ares of the body to help bring about healing on emotional, mental and spiritual levels.
Crystal therapy can also be used in conjuction with other therapies such as Reiki, Aromatherapy, Reflexology, Hot-stones, Colour Therapy and Quantum Touch for a totally unique expreience.
Your therapist will discuss with you the Crystal Therapy that would best suit your needs. Treatments last approx 60 mins.
Is based on the Chinese Five Elements: Fire, Earth, Metal, Water, Wood. Each element governs a yin and yang organ in the body, and is associated with a colour, taste, season, smell and emotion.
By identifying the main or underlying emotion that is running thorough our daily life, together with any presenting ailments, we can determine our dominant element and thus take an active part in restoring greater balance in all aspects of our life.
For example, are you one of those worriers who are always there to help, nourish and support others, yet find it difficult to welcome the same support and wonder why no one is there for you and your needs? Do you find yourself craving for ‘sweet’ foods, possibly suffering from digestion related problems, poor or excessive appetite, nausea, loose stools, poor concentration, worry and obsessive thoughts? These are all typical of a person with an Earth element imbalance.
A simple questionnaire, tongue diagnosis (the shape, texture, colour and moisture of the tongue are strong indicators of imbalance) and iridology (study of the iris) are all used to help first determine your dominant element, then to determine the cause of the imbalance – be it emotional, physical, mental, spiritual or as is more likely a combination of all levels, and finally the appropriate steps to take to achieve go about restoring total well-being.
Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)
"... dissolves most negative emotions & many physical symptoms."
Like acupuncture and acupressure, EFT works by impacting directly into the body's meridians, restoring the energy flow and promoting healing and well-being.
The re-energising and re-vitalising action of EFT, together with it's remarkable ability to lower stress levels, allows the user to relax and function to the best of his or her ability. In addition, physical illnesses or injuries will often begin to heal faster.
During a session you remain seated & clothed as the practitioner gently taps on precise points; the most remarkable aspect of EFT for many users is the fact that it is designed so that you can do it for yourself once you've learned the techniques.
It is totally safe - there are no negative side effects. EFT can be used on anyone from infants to the elderly or seriously ill with no fear of harm.
"... is the employment of several mind-body modalities by a senior therapist to create a unique treatment."
It may involve massage, chakra balancing; crystals; colour therapy; visualisation, flower remedies; Homeopathy; Meridian-work such as acupressure and shiatsu; hands-on healing; Reflexology; Reiki.
Each treatment is dictated by the client’s condition, with the aim to restore a balance of energies and to kick-start the body’s own self-healing abilities and to restore a sense of true-self.
"... the professional solution to soften and revitalise tired, dry, cracked or aching feet."
The feet are wiped clean, then massaged with a moisturiser which may contain suitable aromatherapy oils (depending on the client’s circumstances).
The feet are then placed inside heated Booties for 15 minutes of pure relaxation to provide a deep penetrating therapy.
"... usually given through the feet, in a foot Spa."
There are approximately 2000 pores in each foot which makes it a convenient and efficient way to clean and purify your body. It provides a pleasant and relaxing way for the body to achieve detoxification.
The aim is to restore function within the organs of elimination; the liver, kidneys, bowels, lungs, skin and lymphatics. The Aqua detox unit produces a frequency (from the array) that gently resonates through the body and stimulates all the cells within your body. This allows the cells to rebalance, enabling them to perform efficiently and release any build up of toxins.
It is suitable for everyone from babies to elderly, EXCEPT those with pacemakers, epilepsy and pregnant women. (If you inadvertently have a treatment whilst pregnant, there is no cause for concern, however we would advise against any future treatment during pregnancy. Always check with your doctor if you have any doubts about having a treatment. The unit will not remove any medication from your body. It stimulates the body to rebalance and so allows it to perform its natural functions more effectively).
"... a delightful way for the body to absorb minerals, tissue salts and aromatherapy oils dissolved in warm water and especially chosen to ease chronic joint pain."
The client relaxes in a chair with their feet in the foot massage spa with the warm water gently pummelling the feet and ankles. A soothing foot massage with moisturising cream by one of our therapists completes the treatment.
The only clothing removed is shoes, socks or tights.
Appointment 30 minutes.
"... is a holistic form of medicine which takes into account the unique physical and emotional traits of the individual."
Homeopathy works on the principle that ‘like can cure like’; in which a drug and a disease that produce similar symptoms cancel each other out by stimulating the body’s healing powers, thereby restoring the patient to health.
Homeopathy can be used to treat physical, mental and emotional symptoms. Homeopathic medicines are prepared from the plant, animal and mineral extracts and, by a process called ‘potentising’; the weaker the preparation the more powerful the effect.
The initial consultation can be a lengthy appointment since the client’s ‘constitution’ is assessed thoroughly in order for the Homeopath to chose the right remedy out of the hundreds available.

"... also known as Thermo-Auricular Therapy."
Can offer real and marked benefits for many problems and conditions associated with the ear, nose and throat areas such as tinitus, compacted ear wax, migraine, hay fever, headaches, sinusitis, etc.
This therapy is widely used by doctors in Europe and America as an alternative to conventional treatments such as antibiotics, ear syringing and grommets.
It is also a deeply relaxing, calming and soothing experience that can regulate pressure in the ears and the head; and stimulate the lymphatic system and metabolism.
"... allowing a deep working of the soft body tissues."
This technique uses heated Basalt Lava stones to warm the client’s muscles, allowing a deep working of the soft body tissues.
Stones are chosen to correspond to specific parts of the body, oil is smoothed onto the client and the stone is then worked along the skin in place of the therapist’s hand. Cold marble stones can also used as part of the treatment in order to balance the body.
Stone Massage, or hot stone therapy, can be incorporated into other treatments such as reflexology, aromatherapy, Indian head massage and even manicure, pedicure and facials or on its own this alternative therapy is extremely popular with clients.
"... promotes an extraordinary quality of mental, physical and emotional relaxation, and provides an effective way to deal with inner emotional conflicts."
Hypnosis is not unlike the dream-like state that you experience every night before you go to sleep. It is a natural human occurrence that can be reproduced by a qualified hypnotherapist. Hypnosis allows you to enter a relaxed state in which the sub conscious mind becomes readily open to suggestion because the conscious mind has been bypassed. The hypnotherapist acts as a guide to assist in exploring old negative beliefs and fears that get in the way of current goals. Old feelings can be released, allowing you to choose new ways of responding to current challenges.
Hypnotherapy can; help you stop smoking; reduce weight/control eating habits; relieve stress; overcome anger & depression, eliminate panic attacks; relieve the pain of major disease and trauma; help you overcome fears & phobias; deal with addictions; improve self-esteem & self-confidence; increase concentration; etc.
During an hypnotic trance you are not unconscious, you are aware of your surroundings and able to hear what is going on around you, and will most likely remember everything that happens. Everyone can be hypnotised if they wish to be, and there is no danger. You cannot be told to do anything you do not want to whilst in a state of hypnosis.
If a suggestion that is not appealing is given to a person while in a hypnotic state one of two things would happen - the person in the hypnotic state would either ignore the suggestion, or would bring themselves out of hypnosis. You will not do anything that is against your moral or ethical beliefs under hypnosis any easier than you would in a conscious state.
"... stimulates the flow of blood to the hair follicles, improving the supply of nutrients needed for healthy hair growth."
The most common cause of poor blood flow is stress-generated muscle tension. By relieving this tension, Indian head massage not only improves the condition of your hair, but also provides an invaluable treatment for stress-related problems like eye strain, headaches, insomnia, lack of concentration, tense muscles in the neck and shoulders and feeling lethargic.
A treatment also includes massage to the shoulders, upper arm and neck as these are the areas, which are vulnerable to the build up of stress. It can be performed clothed, or with carrier oil applied to the neck and shoulders, and is carried out sitting in an upright position.
"... known informally as the ‘surgery-free facelift’."
It achieves its nick-name by following a prescribed pattern of invigorating strokes to increase the circulation to the muscles of the neck, face and scalp.
This massage has the dual effect of stimulation locally for the tissues being worked on; while leaving the client in a general state of relaxation.
An appointment lasts approximately 40 minutes.
"... or 'Zoku Shin Do' is a massage that involves the lower leg from the knees to the toes."
Clients are positioned safely for back health with the entire fore-leg supported on bolsters.
A prescribed pattern of invigorating strokes are applied to the muscles and muscle attachments of the forleg and foot, as well as introducing some range of motion at the hip and knee as tolerated. The increased circulation gives the feet a sense of renewed vitality.
An appointment lasts approximately 20 minutes and can be combined with a Japanese facial massage for a 60 minute appointment.
".. is the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of movement dysfunction and its effect on pain."
The cause of a patients problem is addressed rather than simply treating their symptoms.
Posture and movement is assessed and relevant exercises are then prescribed to help correct the dysfunction.
"... helps people to overcome limitations in their lives that prevent them from being whom or what they want to be."
It assists groups or individuals in their personal growth, health and well-being and to set achievable goals and to think and speak positively.
The aim is to create a harmonious balance between all the challenges in your life combined with clear directions to take you to a bright new future.
Sessions may be continued by telephone.
Appointment 45 - 60 minutes
the Lymphatic System (the 'dustbin' of the body) is a delicate and often over-loaded vascular system close to the skin that requires as much, if not more attention as our muscular-skeletal system, particularly in women. Swollen tissue, puffy ankles, face and hands, cellulite and water retention, sinusitis, migraines, hormone imbalance, deficient immune system, fatigue and constipation are some of the conditions caused, in part, to inadequate drainage of the lymph nodes.
MLD is a special massage technique that gently 'pumps' the major lymph nodes and then 'directs' the flow of lymph towards these sites. improvement in any of the above symptoms can be quite dramatic even after only one or two treatments. Each treatment lasts approximately 90 mins. It is a light and pleasantly relaxing treatment.
Massage
"... an entirely natural and ancient form of healing through touch."
We all do it when we rub our sore ankle or put an arm round a friend who is in difficulties. The training we undergo as practitioners enables us to use touch more effectively, whether to ease painful muscles, or release painful emotions.
Most people enjoy the relaxing effect of touch, and feel calmed and nurtured by the experience. Some conditions which have been successfully treated with massage are back pain, neck and shoulder aches, headaches and migraines; high blood pressure, insomnia, depression, post-viral syndrome, irritable bowel syndrome etc.
There are a variety of massage practices including; Holistic (specifically designed to suit an individuals requirements and can be firm or light and is generally a full body massage aligned with the Eastern concept of Qi); Therapeutic & Remedial (both concentrate on specific areas requiring deep tissue treatment); Thai (a deep massage performed on the floor and fully clothed); and Aromatherapy (see the link above).
"... involves the client remaining clothed while receiving an appropriate treatment to the back, neck and shoulders;"
Utilising Swedish, Therapeutic and Integrative massage techniques.
Indian Head Massage can also be received this way.
Appointment 20 - 30 minutes
"... is an established system of medicine comprising clinical diagnosis, manual treatment and patient management based on a caring approach to individual needs."
Osteopaths focus on the musculo-skeletal system (the bones, joints, muscles ligaments and connective tissue) and the way this interrelates with the body as a whole.
When a patient visits an osteopath for the first time, a full medical history will be taken followed by an examination often involving a simple series of movements to assess mobility and to identify any points of weakness, excessive strain or specific injury. This assessment will be considered alongside lifestyle factors such as work and leisure activities to enable the osteopath to reach a diagnosis. An appropriate treatment plan will be determined (or if there are contraindications to treatment such as suspicions of underlying pathology the patient will be referred to his or her GP).
During a teatment Osteopaths use their hands both to diagnose underlying problems and to carry out treatment using a variety of manipulative techniques. These may include soft tissue stretching or rhythmic passive joint movements to improve the range of movement of a joint. Gentle release techniques are often used, particularly when treating children or elderly patients. The cranial approach is used by some practitioners to identify and correct disturbances and limitations of tissue mobility not only in and around the joints of the skull but throughout the body.
"... is a healthcare profession which sees human movement as central to the health and well-being of individuals."
Physiotherapists identify and maximise movement potential through health promotion, preventive medicine, treatment and rehabilitation. The core skills used by physiotherapists include manual therapy, therapeutic exercise and the application of electro-physical modalities.
"... a unique eclectic approach to healing."
The founder of the system Dr Randolph Stone drew on his background in Osteopathy, Chiropractic and Natropathy and blended these with the concepts of reflexes and energy principles. Polarity therapy works on the physical body to alleviate pain and tension and musculo-skeletal imbalance caused through injury or stress, as well as more subtle energy work that works at the mental emotional level.
Polarity bodywork releases tension and holding patterns in the physical body and the psyche. It utilises a variety of touch, sometimes working deep into muscle tension, sometimes rocking or pulsing the body and at other times working a very subtle levels to interface with the body-mindconnection. At the heart of all the bodywork is the concept of energy or life force, often referred to as the prana or chi.
Polarity therapists are skilled at detecting where the energy is blocked or congested and with appropriate touch can release and encourage the free flow of the life force. A practitioner also works to establish the balance of the body's electro-magnetic field, which in these days of high tech equipment and modern life styles can become seriously disturbed by such things as computers and mobile phones.
Practitioners also recognise that our thinking and emotionality have a direct affect on our physical body and our state of well-being. By releasing holding in the body these other aspects can be brought into awareness and worked with. Bodywork is often performed through light clothing, although some conditions may require the removal of outer clothing.
As well as encouraging clients to become more aware of the causes of their condition and contributory factors such as emotionality, life styles are often explored and any self defeating attitudes. In some cases specific exercises known as Polarity Yoga are given as a means of self help.
What happens in a session:
After a short initial consultation the practitioner will work on you, you remain fully clothed, while you sit or lie or occasionally stand while she/he 'run's' energy. A session is very much a partnership where you give the practitioner feedback as to what you are feeling and she/he adjust their focus accordingly.
The Quantum Touch® practitioner uses breathing and body awareness to amplify their own energy and then runs this energy to the client, who in turn entrains to that amplified energy. Essentially all healing is self-healing and Quantum Touch® works with the body's own intelligence to heal itself.
"... is an ancient Chinese energy cultivation technique."
It combines controlled breathing with focused concentration, and the simple movement Qigong exercises help to remove blocks and increase the flow of energy through your body. When it flows free, Chi energy heals and restores the balance of opposing Yin Yang energies at work in our bodies.
Attending a qigong class can benefit your immune system, reduce the effects of stress and improve balance and muscle tone and stamina. It is even said to slow the ageing process.
Classes last approximately 45 minutes
"...is often a life changing experience, utilizing new vibrational frequencies to allow for the healing of the body, mind and spirit. Described as being vastly different from Reiki, Johrei, Jin Shin, Qi Gong or Pranic Healing. The highly palpable energies of reconnective Healing are initiated at the start of you session and continue to working with you long after your visit has ended.
You remain clothed and lie on a treatment couch, there is no physical contact with the practioner, however, 'registers' begin to occur as your body responds to the palpable energies, these 'registers' may beinclude rapid eye-movements, involuntary muscle movements, colour/bright light awareness, a desire to laugh etc. Through your participation in these session (three are generally required for a complete treatmetn though one or two may suffice) you will be forever changed by operating at and attuned to a higher frequency than ever before. Sessions last approx 45 minutes, avoid perfume and other scented products.
"... a science based on the principle that a reflex point in the foot relates to each organ, function, and part of the body."
By applying a deep pressure technique to these reflexes the practitioner seeks to normalise bodily function.
It is an holistic treatment enabling the internal defences to maximise their effect.
Egyptian and Chinese people were among the first to realise the benefits more than 4000 years ago. In modern times Eunice Ingham developed the early stages of Reflexology as it is known today and her nephew Dwight Byers brought it to Europe in the 1960’s.
Amongst many conditions which will respond are; asthma and other respiratory conditions; back pain; and digestive problems.
"... uses breathing techniques and deep tissue massage to facilitate the release of chronically held tension."
It is often incorporated by massage therapists with their general mode of treatment.
Appointment 30 – 60 minutes
"... a system of natural healing which originated in ancient Tibet."
Reiki restores balance in one's life and enhances all other forms of treatment - both orthodox and complementary. Subtle universal energy is drawn by the recipient through a channel in the practitioner. The recipient unconsciously draws the energy to the areas of most imbalance within them bringing mind, body and soul back into alignment.
It is possible for healing to take place on any level of being; physical, emotional, mental or spiritual. Acute injuries can be helped to heal very quickly but more chronic illness takes longer. In some terminal cases there is not enough time for the process of disease to be reversed, however, in such cases there is usually a great deal of benefit seen through improved quality of life, giving a sense of peace and acceptance during the time remaining. This benefit spreads out like ripples on a mill pond to those who are close as they can see that the suffering is eased.
The method of receiving a reiki treatment is simple. Reiki can be given at any time or place as no special equipment is necessary. The recipients lies on a couch and relaxes. There is no need to take off any clothing as the Reiki will pass through anything - even plaster casts.
The practitioner gently places their hands, non intrusively, over a series of positions covering the entire body. the recipient is treated as a whole and not just a sum of their symptoms. The treatment takes about an hour - each position being held for a few minutes as the energy flows through the practitioner into the areas of need.
Many different sensations may be experienced during a treatment these can range from heat, cold or tingling to feelings of deep relaxation and the sense of being nurtured. Some people do not feel any sensation during the treatment, this is also quite normal. The energy will still be flowing, however the recipient may not be so sensitive to feeling it. Reiki is not a belief system and it is often those who try to disprove it that have the most profound healing experiences.
"... a physical therapy; working intensively with deep tissue massage and mobilisation techniques on localised areas of your body."
Remedial massage therapy covers both muscular and skeletal dysfunctions, including; fibrositis, spondylitis, arthritis, frozen shoulder, muscular cramps, whiplash, muscular atrophy, sports and dancing injuries, etc.
Remedial massage therapy takes between 20 - 30 minutes, this depends largely on the extent of your dysfunctions and on the amount of treatment that your body can realistically handle at one time, too much treatment can be as ineffective as too little treatment.
An extended remedial massage lasts between 30 - 45 minutes and is utilised when you have extensive problem over various areas that need addressing.
"... a traditional Japanese healing art; which can help in a wide range of conditions."
Shiatsu can help with specific injuries and/or more general symptoms of poor health. Shiatsu is a deeply relaxing experience and regular Shiatsu sessions help to prevent the build up of stress in our daily lives.
The philosophy underlying Shiatsu is that vital energy (known as Ki in Japanese) flows throughout the body in a series of channels called meridians. For many different reasons Ki can stop flowing freely and this then produces a symptom.
Your Shiatsu practitioner will consider your state of health, the symptoms you are experiencing and, depending on your constitution and general energy levels, will use a variety of techniques to improve your energy flow. These may include gentle holding, pressing with palms, thumbs, fingers, elbows, knees and feet on the meridians and, when appropriate, more dynamic rotations and stretches.
As the quality of Ki changes, the symptoms associated with a lack of flow will gradually improve. Shiatsu is a therapy that works on the individual as a complete being - not just the physical body but also on an emotional and/or mental level as well.
The session usually takes place on a padded mat or futon at floor level, although it is possible to receive Shiatsu sitting on a chair if you are unable to lie down. The client stays fully clothed. Following a treatment, there can be a feeling of increased vitality and you may feel invigorated yet relaxed.
Sports Injury Massage & Rehabilitation
"... is the use of deep tissue massage and positional release techniques;"
together with rehabilitation exercises treatments help improve muscular-skeletal function and aid in repair to injury or repetitive strain.
Appointment 45 – 60 minutes
Systemic Structural Mobilisation Therapy:
Can be used to treat any structural problems and as a consequence any other problems that stem from structural complaints. It is a non-invasive technique which seeks to find the origin of a problem allowing the body to adjust itself without forcing it.
The actual treatment makes use of a whole spectrum of different non-invasive therapies: osteopathic, remedial massage, Rolfing, shiatsu, trigger-point acupressure, Bowen, positional release, kinesiology and others.
Tibetan Acupressure Head Massage (TAHM)
"... is about 6.000 years old and incorporates the traditional principles and theories of ancient Tibetan medicine."
TAHM is similar to Ayurveda, although unlike Ayuveda the Tibetan beliefs are that 5 chakras are important not 7. The most important one being the Life Sustaining Wind which resides in the crown chrakra - believed to govern all bodily functions and sustain life. The other 4 chakras are throat, navel, base - not so important.
The main aim of the massage is to slow Life Sustaining Wind down, rebalance energy so it flows freely throughout the body then speed the wind back up again.
The therapy is performed with the client fully clothed in a reclining position and includes massage of the scalp, face, neck, throat, shoulders and upper arms. Warmed oils are applied to the scalp (optional but wonderful!) during the massage.
Benefits of TAHM are that it; brings balance and harmony to the mind, body and soul and supports the body's natural ability to heal itself (holistic); is deeply relaxing, and so helps reduce stress and tension; increases circulation to the scalp, and so improves hair and scalp condition; increases oxygen to tissues, and so nourishes tissues; aids lymphatic drainage and the elimination of toxins; and it promotes a feeling of inner peace and calm.
"... utilises the principles of Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) and clinical hypnotherapy;"
to assist the client in removing negative emotions associated with past events, including birth and past-lives.
The client is induced into only a mild trance state where questions are answered quickly by the unconscious mind which can then identify the root of a problem. Associated ‘learning’ is then removed without the client having to re-live the trauma of the event. BMS
